Kate Lander started writing at the tender age of eight. A mind desperate for the words of authors from around the world was porously extracting the stories of Tolkein, Shakespeare and Dickens in a bid to escape the world around her. These words soon found room to grow in her adolescent imagination and by the time she was at Secondary School she had already penned her first ten short stories and reams of poetry. Her love of language and literature found a second love in the Drama Department and from the age of eleven she was regularly taking the leading roles in the School productions. An offer of a scholarship to a prestigious London Arts and Performance School soon followed; this was an offer she was unable to accept and so she concentrated even more on developing tales and plays of her own.
On leaving School Lander then joined the local youth Theatre where she performed roles from Nancy in Oliver! Charity, in Sweet Charity and Miss Jean Brody in the play of the same name. Her vocal talents did not go unnoticed and at just seventeen she started singing her way around the clubs, pubs and theatres of Essex. She subsequently joined the now defunct rock band ‘The Deacon Splits’ as their front woman.
Lander did become what she considered as ‘normal’ for a time, she married, had a family, a mortgage and a head full of words and worlds that needed exorcism. She again dived into short stories, becoming a regular writer for woman’s magazine ‘twist in the tale’ stories as well as writing short comedy scripts and developing a poetry anthology based on her experiences within the performance industry. She was asked by the sadly now deceased Suzi Pritchard of The Guardian and The Guardian online to take control of the online PR for the writer’s website Dome2.com and was wholly responsible for raising membership by 38% within just 6 weeks of accepting the position. After various awards and prizes for poetry and short stories alike, she wrote her first novel.
A Black Betrayal was the first of a trilogy of books based on early Irish myth and Celtic history centring round the heroic Finn MacCamhal, leader of the famed Fianna or Fenians. On the instruction of her agent she developed the trilogy into a feature script which is still awaiting production.
With various short’s including the actor’s showreel piece ‘Roses Thorns’ and the acclaimed ‘Carriage Three’, Lander is now working regularly as a script consultant and independent script writer. She is also working as a main provider of editorials and marketing pieces for the UK’s largest Premium Health Club. She has provided corporate scripts for Customer Service Training within the industry and has been credited with a ‘Best Practice’ award by the same company.
